Kingston, Jamaica – June 3, 2024 – The N.C.B. Foundation, a leader in education and community development, has been honoured with the UCC Humanitarian of the Year Award by the University College of the Caribbean (UCC). Sheree Martin, CEO of the N.C.B. Foundation, accepted the award recently during a ceremony.

The Humanitarian award recognises the N.C.B. Foundation's significant contributions to promoting digital literacy and expanding Jamaica’s digital workforce. This includes initiatives to develop skills in software development, data science, animation, digital media, and robotics engineering. Under Sheree Martin’s leadership and inspired by the ethos of Honourable Michael Lee-Chin, O.J., “prosperitas cum caritate” – doing well by doing good – the Foundation has made substantial progress in empowering individuals through education and technology, key pillars for Building a Better Jamaica.

In her acceptance speech, Martin highlighted the transformative power of education and the potential within every Jamaican to contribute to national development. "I believe that kind of potential exists inside this very room today, and I ask that you take your role in Building a Better Jamaica seriously. You are not too small to make a big impact," she said. Martin also emphasised the Foundation’s unique funding model, where 1% of the NCB Financial Group's profits is allocated to initiatives aimed at enhancing educational opportunities, supporting entrepreneurs, and fostering innovation.

Dr Yvonne Dawkins, Dean of Undergraduate Studies at the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean praised the Foundation’s work stating, "At the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean, we believe quality education unlocks human potential to create positive change. That is why we are honoured to recognise the N.C.B. Foundation, whose visionary initiatives are equipping Jamaican youth with digital skills and resilient mind-sets to become the innovators and nation-builders of tomorrow."

The UCC Humanitarian Award highlights the N.C.B. Foundation’s dedication to creating positive change and making impactful contributions towards building a sustainable future for Jamaica.
