18 Jul 2024

Kingston, Jamaica – July 18, 2024 – Since its launch on Friday, July 5, 2024, N.C.B. Foundation has made substantial progress with the Building A Better Jamaica Fund established to support those affected by Hurricane Beryl. The Fund has received several generous cash donations and pledges from individuals and companies, including Guardian Group, Wisynco, Jamaica Macaroni Factory Limited, the Jamaica Social Stock Exchange (JSSE) and Food for the Poor Canada. Additionally there is response with in-kind pledges from Spike Industries and Wisynco.

This initiative has garnered remarkable support from corporate and social partners, further enhancing efforts to restore normalcy to the hardest-hit communities. These contributions are critical in aiding the restoration with roofing for homes and small businesses as well as support for agriculture in the severely affected parishes of St Elizabeth, Hanover, and Manchester.

Notably, NCB Director Andrew Pairman has spearheaded a social media campaign encouraging his followers to donate JM$5,000 or more to the Fund, further amplifying the reach and impact of this initiative.

CEO of Guardian Group Limited, Ian Chinapoo, added, “We believe in the power of unity and community support during times of crisis. Contributing to NCB's Disaster Relief Fund aligns with our commitment to helping Jamaicans rebuild and recover from the devastating impacts of Hurricane Beryl. We are proud to stand with NCB and other corporate partners in this crucial effort to restore hope and stability to those affected.”

Sheree Martin, CEO, N.C.B. Foundation, expressed her gratitude and anticipation, stating, “The outpouring of support from our corporate partners and the public has been truly heartening. These contributions will significantly bolster our efforts to assist those in dire need. The generosity shown by our local and overseas partners emphasises the strength of community and the power of collaboration. We are encouraging this worthwhile partnership as we work together in making a profound difference in the lives of our fellow Jamaicans affected by this disaster.”
